Quality Control & Food Safety

You need every batch to arrive within specification. This page shows the testing, the COA parameters and the documentation behind each bulk edible oil shipment.

What You Receive With Every Shipment

Each shipment is issued with a batch-specific COA and supporting documents. The limits below are the numbers buyers typically lock into the purchase contract.

Free Fatty Acid (FFA)

≤ 0.1%

refined grades at despatch

Peroxide Value

≤ 1.0 meq/kg

primary oxidation marker

Moisture & Volatile Matter

≤ 0.1%

prevents hydrolysis

Smoke Point

220–232°C

depending on oil type and grade

Each lot also ships with a unique lot number tied to the packing list and bill of lading, plus ISO 22000 / HACCP documentation. See how to verify edible oil quality with a COA and what to request in a COA before shipment.

Bulk Supply Options

Quality Control Process

Five control stages cover the journey from raw material receipt to final shipment, so batch consistency holds from origin to destination.

Raw Material Inspection

Incoming oilseeds and crude oils are tested before acceptance. Moisture content, impurity level, free fatty acid and peroxide value are checked, and supplier documentation is verified. Only material that meets the agreed specification moves to production.

Key Activities & Tests

Moisture contentImpurity levelFree fatty acidPeroxide valueColour and odour

In-Process Quality Control

During extraction, refining, bleaching and deodorization, critical control points are monitored and recorded. Temperature, pressure and flow rates are logged, and intermediate samples confirm each refining stage reaches its target specification.

Temperature monitoringPressure controlIntermediate samplingProcess parameter verification

Finished Product Testing

Every finished batch is tested before release. Acid value, peroxide value, moisture, colour (Lovibond), smoke point and iodine value are analysed, together with sensory evaluation for flavour and odour. Batches that miss specification are held back from packaging.

Pre-Shipment Verification

Before the container is loaded, final checks cover packaging integrity, labelling accuracy and batch consistency. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) is issued documenting results against the contracted limits.

Traceability & Documentation

Each batch carries a lot number linked to raw material records, production data, test results and shipping documents. This gives you end-to-end traceability and supports recall procedures if they are ever required.

Key Testing Parameters

All critical quality parameters are tested using internationally recognised methods. Ranges shown are for reference; actual specifications depend on oil type and the limits agreed in your contract.

Testing methods follow international standards including ISO, AOCS and Codex Alimentarius. Acceptable ranges depend on oil type and destination market requirements.

Certifications & Standards

Food safety management and product certifications cover the supply chain, with availability depending on product specification and destination market.

ISO 22000

Food Safety Management System

Food safety management system covering the supply chain from raw material to finished product.

HACCP

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point

Systematic identification and control of biological, chemical and physical hazards in production.

Halal

Halal Certification

Compliance with Islamic dietary requirements, available for export to Muslim-majority markets.

Kosher

Kosher Certification

Compliance with Jewish dietary laws, expanding access to Kosher-observant markets.

BRC

British Retail Consortium

Global food safety and quality standard, requested by many European retailers and food service operators.

IFS

International Food Standard

European food safety certification recognised by major retailers and food manufacturers across the EU.

Certification availability may vary by product and destination market. Confirm specific requirements for your market before ordering.

Export Documentation

Complete documentation accompanies international shipments, supporting smooth customs clearance and regulatory compliance. See the full list on the Export & Compliance page.

Certificate of Analysis (COA)

Test report documenting all quality parameters for each shipment batch.

Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

Safety information for transportation, handling, and storage of edible oils.

Certificate of Origin

Official document certifying the country of manufacture, required for customs clearance.

Health Certificate

Issued by the competent authority confirming the product meets food safety requirements.

Phytosanitary Certificate

Required for plant-based products, certifying freedom from pests and diseases.

Halal Certificate

Certifies compliance with Islamic dietary requirements for Muslim-majority markets.

Market-Specific Compliance

Different markets carry different regulatory requirements. Products can be adapted to specific market needs, depending on destination market requirements.

European Union

  • EU Regulation 178/2002 (General Food Law)
  • EU Regulation 852/2004 (Hygiene)
  • Specific limits for contaminants and pesticides
  • Nutrition labeling requirements

Note: Requirements vary by member state for certain aspects. Additional certifications like BRC or IFS may be required by retailers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What quality certifications apply to bulk edible oil shipments?

ISO 22000 and HACCP form the baseline food safety management system, and third-party audits are maintained to keep them current. Additional certifications including Halal, Kosher, BRC and IFS are available depending on product specification and destination market requirements.

What testing parameters are monitored?

All critical quality parameters are tested, including acid value, peroxide value, moisture content, colour (Lovibond), smoke point, iodine value, flavour and odour, heavy metals and microbiological analysis. Testing methods follow international standards such as ISO, AOCS and Codex Alimentarius methods.

Is a Certificate of Analysis (COA) provided with shipments?

A batch-specific COA is issued for every shipment. It includes test results for all relevant quality parameters, batch identification, production date and confirmation against the applicable specification. COAs are retained in the traceability system for reference.

Can quality specifications be adapted for different markets?

Yes. Products can be formulated and tested to meet diverse market requirements including EU regulations, FDA standards, Halal requirements for Middle East markets, and country-specific standards in Southeast Asia and Africa. Specific requirements depend on the destination market and can be reviewed with the sales team.

How does the traceability system work?

Each batch is assigned a unique lot number that links to raw material sources, production records, test results and shipping details. This enables full traceability from raw material receipt through final delivery and supports recall capability if needed.

How are non-conforming products handled?

Any product that does not meet specification is quarantined and investigated. Root cause analysis is carried out, corrective actions are implemented, and the buyer is notified. Records of all non-conformances and corrective actions are maintained as part of continuous improvement.
